Yokoso And Welcome!
From June 6 to 11, 2023, Frankfurt am Main will once again become the capital of Japanese film, celebrating cinema across all genres with many premieres and guests. We present around 100 short and feature-length films from Japan – from blockbusters and anime to independent and documentary films. A supporting program with more than 60 workshops, concerts, lectures and an exhibition, as well as numerous market booths and a broad offer of culinary specialties, invite you to discover Japan in all its regional facets. The festival centers are again located at Künstler*innenhaus Mousonturm and Produktionshaus NAXOS.
The star guest of the festival is Toko MIURA, who will receive the first NIPPON RISING STAR AWARD on June 11. The actress and singer is known from the Academy Award-winning drama DRIVE MY CAR. The festival’s thematic focus CITYSCAPES AND COUNTRYSIDE, supported by Kulturfonds Frankfurt RheinMain, examines the contrast between urban and rural regions in Japan. This contrast also characterizes the films of director Keisuke KINOSHITA, to which we dedicate this year’s NIPPON RETRO.
We are deeply grateful to Angela Dorn (Hessian Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science and the Arts), Nargess Eskandari-Grünberg (Mayor of the City of Frankfurt am Main) and the Consulate General of Japan in Frankfurt am Main for their patronage and to all supporters and sponsors for their contributions!
We are looking forward to seeing you and wish you exciting and entertaining days at the Nippon Connection Film Festival!
